A hot and steamy day saw a busy day of bowls with 80 players in 40 teams taking part in the 3 wood Pairs competition. With so many players taking part the group stages had 5 teams per group. There some very tight matches once again with one group that couldn’t be split by points difference and had to go to points scored to decide the winner. The kitchen again did a roaring trade with the catering facilitys getting a good workout and everyone who worked in the kitchen for the day reported that sleep in the evening was not a problem!
The knockout stages started slightly behind schedule as the heat took it’s tole. However that did not effect the standard of play, which remained high throughout. It also did not have an adverse effect on the spirit that all the games were played in, with laughter and smiling all round. The heat did have a particular effect on one member of the crowd though!
The final came down to a shoot out between T Carline & E Graves and G Lancaster & N Burton. Again it was a closely fought affair with the result in the balance right down to the last end.
Carline & Graves ran out the winnrs by 8 shots to 5 and took home the winners cheques of £45 each.
Runners up – G Lancaster & N Burton
Winners – T Carline & E Graves
